Botox and Juvederm

How do Botox and Fillers work together?

Many people are aware of Botox and Juvederm but they are not quite sure what they do. Are they interchangeable? Do they work together? Do I always need both of them?

Botox is a purified protein that we inject to relax the muscles of facial expression that cause wrinkles. That’s all it does. It doesn’t add volume to the face and it doesn’t do anything for the skin surface. But to help diminish and prevent wrinkles on the face caused by facial muscles, there is nothing else like it. There is no other way to relax frown lines, forehead creases, or Crow’s feet than with Botox injections. How much Botox do I need? How long does Botox last?

Juvederm Injections

Juvederm is a dermal filler consisting of a natural building block of skin. Its job is to add volume where it has been lost and to soften deep wrinkles. It does nothing to relax muscles or help the skin surface. Juvederm offers a safer, easier and cheaper alternative to surgical options like implants and fat transfer when facial volume is needed.

Are Botox and Juvederm Interchangeable?

No. Botox is used to relax muscles that cause wrinkles and Juvederm is used to add volume. They cannot replace each other’s effects.

Do Botox and Juvederm work together?

Yes! Frequently, we need both relaxation of facial muscles as well as volume restoration. If we have very deep frown lines, Botox is great to relax the frown muscles and soften the lines. These deep lines will never go away unless a dermal filler like Juvederm is used to fill them. Once properly filled and with regular Botox use, these frown lines will be history! This is when Botox and Fillers are a must!

Do I always need both Botox and Juvederm?

No. Sometimes you just have some wrinkles that need Botox and your facial volume is fine. Sometimes you want to plump your lips and only Juvederm is needed. You don’t have to use both every time.

What else do I need besides Botox Juvederm?

As we mentioned before, Botox and Juvederm really do not do much for the skin surface itself. This is when products and procedures designed to stimulate collagen production are needed. In fact, when you stimulate collagen, the skin becomes more supple and elastic and Botox Juvederm will work better and last longer! Some popular collagen stimulation procedures include microneedling, laser resurfacing, and products like retinol and growth factors.
