What is Cellulite?
Effecting almost 90% of all women, cellulite is the unsightly dimples and dents usually found on the buttocks and thighs. Cellulite has a strong genetic and hormonal components. It is caused by bulging of fat between connective tissue bands that pull the skin down. There have been many procedures intoduced to deal with cellulite over the years with mixed results. Cellfina is one of the first minimally invasive procedures that actually deals with the root cause of cellulite. Cellulaze is another effective treatment that is somewhat more invasive. Patients with a great deal of fat may benefit from Smartlipo and Cellulaze.
How does Cellfina work?
The area to be treated is marked and photographed. A local anesthetic is then introduced into the treatment area. Once numbness is present, the Cellfina instrument is introduced. The Cellfina instrument then cuts the connective tissue bands that are holding the skin down. By releasing these bands, there will be almost instant improvement in the appearance of cellulite. One of the advantages of Cellfina is that it can release the bands in multiple layers.
When can I see Cellfina results?
Since the connective tissue bands are immediately cut, results can be seen very quickly. There will be some swelling that resolves but results can become apparent in days and will improve with time. At three months, 85 percent of patients were satisfied, at one year 94 percent were satisfied and after two years, 96 percent of patients were satisfied.
What are the side effects of Cellfina?
Most common Cellfina side effects are swelling, bruising and tenderness. All of these side effects resolve on their own. There have been no long-term complications.
