PRP Austin Microneedling: What is it & who needs it?

Microneedling is a safe, office-based procedure that allows us to take anti-aging therapy to the next level. Simply, a series of tiny needles are used to painlessly pierce your skin. The purpose of the microneedles is to reach the lower layer of your skin, the dermis. It is in the dermis where collagen is made, the building block of your skin. It is also in the dermis where the signs of aging and sun damage show up. So being able to get to the dermis is critical to producing results. Unfortunately many procedures that are offered do not reach the dermis and have limited effectiveness.

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)

The effect of the tiny microneedles entering the dermis is to cause small micro traumas. Just like any other wound, these micro-traumas stimulate the body’s repair mechanism. As a result, new collagen formation is initiated. When used for cosmetic purposes, microneedling stimulates collagen production for skin rejuvenation.

Microneedling Microchannels

A by-product of the microneedles piercing the skin is that they leave microchannels that lead to the dermis. We can utilize these microchannels to infuse substances into the dermis to further enhance skin rejuvenation.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Our blood has cells called platelets that are involved in wound repair after injury. They contain a host of growth factors that they release at injury sites to start repairs. We can collect these cells from your blood (normal blood draw) and activate them to release these growth factors. This part of your blood is called PRP. We can use the growth factors in the PRP for cosmetic purposes to trigger your body’s repair mechanisms for skin rejuvenation. PRP can also be used to improve fat transfer results and speed healing after laser resurfacing.

Microneedling with PRP

So we have these microneedles forming small channels to the dermis and inducing new collagen formation. We also have PRP growth factors that can start tissue repair. Why not combine them for even greater results? Microneedling with PRP does just that. After standard microneedling, your PRP is obtained and placed on those newly formed microchannels. The PRP is drawn down to the dermis where it can further increase collagen production and skin rejuvenation. This can all be done in-office using topical anesthesia. It can be repeated every 4-6 weeks for even better results. It can also be combined with Botox, Juvederm, laser resurfacing, and Ultherapy for comprehensive rejuvenation.

PRP Injections

PRP can also be injected directly into the body. PRP Injection for face can be used to treat wrinkles or mixed with dermal fillers like Juvederm. PRP injections to joints like the knee have also shown some promise.

PRP for Hair Loss

Hair loss is due to many factors but it commonly involves the loss of hair follicles in the scalp. The growth factors in PRP are thought to be able to stimulate remaining hair follicles into a growth phase. This will produce notable hair growth. The good thing is that PRP Hair Restoration is safe, relatively painless, and can be repeated as often as needed.

Microneedling for Acne Scars

Acne scars tend to be located in the deep layers of the skin. Microneedling is uniquely suited to reach acne scars and induce them to remodel. Microneedling with PRP adds the growth factors to improve and prolong the collagen remodeling. Multiple microneedling with PRP sessions will be needed and other modalities like dermal fillers and laser resurfacing may be required for best results.

Microneedling with PRP FAQ

How effective are microneedling with PRP treatments?

A microneedling with PRP treatment may not produce visible results right away, but the growth factors from the PRP serum are meant to boost growth for stronger, healthier skin. To get your ideal results, you may need to get multiple treatments right away and then maintenance sessions. Your aesthetician will go over what you can realistically expect in your initial consultation so you are happy with your results.

How many microneedling with PRP treatments should I get?

To begin, you may want to schedule a series of treatments scheduled every couple of weeks. Depending on the starting condition of your skin and your specific concerns, your aesthetician will create a treatment plan that restores the health and appearance of your skin. Between treatments, you may want to schedule another skin treatment to remove dead skin layers and nourish the new growth.

How often should I get microneedling with PRP treatments?

Following the initial series, you should get maintenance sessions about 2 – 4 times per year. This will vary based on the health and age of your complexion plus your goals, so we will help develop your long-term plan. Our team at Beleza Surgery will be able to recommend how frequently you should get maintenance sessions so your skin remains strong, radiant, and healthy.
