What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler that is composed of tiny microspheres. These microspheres are made of synthetic material called calcium hydroxylapatite, which is combined with a common hydrogel. Once injected, Radiesse works with your body below the skin’s surface. The hydrogel acts as a carrier to deliver the microspheres and holds them in place. The calcium particles left behind creates a scaffold for you tissue to build around.
Radiesse can be used for smoothing and contouring smiles lines and nasolabial folds. It can also be used for contouring of the cheeks, chin or jawline. Typically, Radiesse secondary benefit is decreasing the signs of aging.
Who is a candidate for Radiesse?
Women and men who are in good overall health and concerned about mild to moderate facial lines and wrinkles are the best candidates for RADIESSE treatments. It can address marionette lines, smile lines, pre-jowl folds, chin wrinkles, and lines in the sides of the lips.
RADIESSE is also approved to address age-related volume loss in the hands to help them look softer and younger looking. You shouldn't have this treatment if you have an allergy to lidocaine or other ingredients in the product.
Make sure to tell Dr. Hix-Hernandez about any allergies (severe or not) and any medical disorders or conditions. If you are breastfeeding, pregnant, might be pregnant, or are trying to conceive in the next several years, you should not get RADIESSE treatments.
When Will I See Results?
The results for Radiesse injections can be relatively instant, but the best results may take 2 weeks. You may experience some redness, swelling, or bruising immediately following your Radiesse treatment. This should subside within 24-48 hours.

- How much does RADIESSE cost?
- Your cost for a RADIESSE treatment is dependent on the amount used to match your desired outcome. In your consultation at Beleza Surgery, your injector will ask about your needs and wants so they can develop your personalized treatment plan. Then, they can discuss the costs of your treatment.
- How does RADIESSE compare to other fillers?
- Injectable wrinkle fillers all have unique properties and formulas to fit various issues. Common filler ingredients include HA (hyaluronic acid), calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa), poly-L-lactic acid, and PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate). RADIESSE is made with calcium-based microspheres, which are similar to HA injectable fillers due to the natural ability to increase the natural production of collagen. During your initial consultation, your injector will discuss the various dermal filler brands and assess your facial tone and volume to determine which one is correct for you.
- Are RADIESSE injections painful?
- Usually, patients don't need any form of numbing prior to their treatments. However, a local anesthetic is available to make you feel more comfortable. Most patients only experience minor and brief discomfort when the needle pierces the skin.
- What are the side effects of RADIESSE?
- RADIESSE treatments have a low risk of serious side effects when performed by a skilled injector, like our team at Beleza Surgery. In your initial consultation, tell your injector about medications you take and any known allergies to avoid a reaction. Right after your injection, you may develop mild redness, bruising, numbness, or itching. These side effects are temporary and usually fade within a few days.
- What other procedures can I combine with RADIESSE?
- RADIESSE injections may be done in combination with other injectables for a liquid facelift to help achieve your ideal results.
