What is a Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery (also known as mastopexy) at Beleza Surgery is a cosmetic treatment that lifts and reshapes the breasts by reducing loose skin and pulling tight the healthy tissue to result in a more youthful and healthier look. This body reshaping surgery is offered for women who have lost breast fullness and shape and who have breast drooping due to breastfeeding, weight loss, aging, or gravity. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Staci Hix-Hernandez performs this procedure at her accredited OR at her Cedar Park, TX office. By implementing the latest methods, Dr. Hix-Hernandez can decide on the correct technique based upon the degree of sag present, as well as your desired outcome.

What Can I Expect from My Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery takes approximately two hours or more and is performed using general anesthesia. The timeframe of this treatment is dependent on the nature of breast size and sagging. We will start by making an incision — typically using the anchor technique (inverted-T) or the straight line vertical technique. Once the incision is made, any excess skin is excised along with breast tissue and fat that is not desired. The skin left behind is then tightened and the breasts are positioned higher and lifted so they look healthy. In many cases, the size of the areola is reconstructed and reduced to match the new placement and shape of the breast. After surgery, you will be fitted with a medical compression bra to reduce swelling. A small tube will also be placed near the location of the incision to assist with excess drainage that can often occur after a surgical procedure. The post-surgical swelling usually goes away within 3 – 5 days. Dr. Hix-Hernandez or a member of her team will provide detailed, home treatment care instructions to help your healing process. Results following a breast lift treatment are most noticeable after a few weeks as your newly shaped breasts take their new position on your chest wall.

Breast Lift FAQ

Will my nipples be moved?
Generally, the nipple-areola complex will be moved up during the breast lift. If your areolas are overly large or stretched, Dr. Hix-Hernandez can incorporate an areola reduction during your surgery. This can be discussed during your appointment so she can decide on the best incision pattern to use in your breast lift.

How long will my results last?
With proper care following surgery, your results should last for several years. Your breasts will still age normally, so you could begin to see sagging and loose skin in time. Factors like significant weight loss or gain can change your results; therefore, it's best to stay at a steady weight after your breast lift. Pregnancy or breastfeeding following a breast lift can also alter your results, which is why Dr. Hix-Hernandez recommends patients wait until they are done having kids to get a breast lift.

Can a breast lift fix asymmetry?
A lift can improve asymmetry in your breasts if they're different in size, firmness, or degree of sagging. During your consultation, Dr. Hix-Hernandez will evaluate the appearance and physical condition of your breasts and discuss how a breast lift can help. During your lift, she will shape the tissue so your breasts are equal in size and position for symmetry.
