What is Labiaplasty?

Although it isn't talked about a lot, several women have concerns about the shape and size of their vaginal lips, which can make them feel less confident. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Staci Hix-Hernandez wants to help Central Texas women feel more comfortable and attractive with vaginal rejuvenation surgery that corrects the shape and size of the labia. The labia, which are the external lips of the vaginal area, may look oversized or have hanging skin caused by natural aging, childbirth, pregnancy, or physical trauma. A labiaplasty surgically decreases the size of the labia majora and/or minora to create an improved look. This may eliminate discomfort and irritation while increasing confidence and sexual pleasure. Come in for a consult at Beleza Surgery in Cedar Park, Round Rock, Austin, or Killeen, TX to learn more about the benefits of labiaplasty, and see if you may be a candidate.

What Can I Expect from A Labiaplasty?

Many labiaplasty procedures are performed in one of our private procedure rooms at any one of our four locations with a local anesthetic so you may drive yourself to and from our office. If your treatment plan is more complex, you may need to be put under general anesthesia at our accredited Cedar Park, TX facility, which will mean, you need to have a responsible person to pick you up after your surgery. Dr. Hix-Hernandez will talk about your treatment plan and time estimates during your consultation so you may make arrangements, if needed, before your appointment. A labiaplasty is typically performed with a trimming technique to remove loose tissue, then the remaining skin is stitched so it is taut. Also available is the wedge technique to remove a pie-shaped piece of skin and excess folds from the clitoral hood before suturing the tissue closed. You will need about a week to heal after your labiaplasty to allow discomfort and swelling to fade away before returning to normal activities. Dr. Hix-Hernandez suggests applying a cold compress or ice pack as needed to reduce swelling. You cannot use tampons or have sexual activity for at least 4 – 6 weeks after your treatment while you heal. Patients usually notice visible results after about six weeks and final results about six months following surgery. The results of a labiaplasty are usually long-lasting, but weight fluctuations, natural aging, and childbirth can impact results.
