Otoplasty is completed using general anesthesia or IV sedation at our Cedar Park, TX location in our accredited OR. For many patients, the incision is placed around the back portion of the ear or within the inner folds. During this procedure, cartilage may be removed or added to create a smaller or larger appearance. It's generally common for each ear to be addressed during otoplasty to ensure they appear balanced. After the procedure, the incisions are closed with sutures and wrapped so they can remain protected. Once the procedure is finished and you are released to leave the outpatient surgery center, you will heal and rest at home. Dr. Hix-Hernandez or a member of her team will give recovery instructions. It's very important to not touch or scratch the ears. It's also important not to lay on the ears, and instead, sleep upright for the first several days. Dr. Hix-Hernandez will ask to see you back within the first week when she will remove the wrappings and assess you or your child's ears.
